Buttock Augmentation Enhancement
Rounded and shapely posterior is usually desired by majority of women. People considering cosmetic surgery for enhanced contours and proportions have many options for improving the shape and size of their rear ends. Brazilian butt lift (fat transfer) surgery and synthetic butt implants are two primary techniques. Both these procedures come with some extent of post-operative risks and complications.
During the pre-op consultation, it is important that you ask the surgeon about potential risks and complications. This will help you make an informed decision. Envy Aesthetic Center, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Marco Gonzalez, provides buttock enhancement surgery to patients in El Paso, TX, and surrounding communities.
Buttock Implants Risks
These are a few risks that are involved in buttock enhancement plastic surgery with implants:
Implant extrusion
This is a common complication of this cosmetic surgery. You need intimate knowledge of the shape and size of gluteus major muscle for performing safe buttock enhancement using implants. The secret is to pick butt implants that can be placed comfortably within the muscle.
Generally, this risk comes in cases where the patient demands larger implants. This makes the implants extrude beyond the muscle, which causes contour deformity. It is possible that the implant size may cause severe extrusion. In this the implant tears out of the muscle and forces its way out of the incision.
Implant infection
This is a common risk in buttock augmentation procedure. In fact, this is a common risk with every foreign material that is placed in the body. Your surgeon will take various intraoperative precautions for avoiding contamination and the inherent infection.
For instance, the surgeon will follow the double prepping protocol. This ensures the incision area doesn’t get cross-contaminated. In addition, the pocket and the planned implant will be irrigated using an antibiotic solution before placing it. Finally, minimal touch technique will be used by the surgeon for handling the implant.
These are a few post-operative precautions which are useful in minimizing the risk of infection.
Brazilian Butt Lift Risks
These are a few risks to BBL cosmetic surgery:
Buttock asymmetry
Asymmetrical buttock is a common complication when it comes to fat transfer augmentation. Your plastic surgeon may have placed too much or too little fat on one side resulting in a mismatch. Only a revision surgery can fix this.
Seroma
Seroma formation or fluid accumulation can be taken care of by placing drainage tubes. Fluid accumulation may also be removed using a syringe and needle.
Poor wound healing
Incision area may not heal properly. In this case, antibiotics will be prescribed by the surgeon. This risk is higher in case smokers or those who may continue smoking during the recovery.
Scarring
Incision scarring is minimal in case of Brazilian butt lift, but will be more significant in case of butt implants. However, experienced surgeons place the incisions in discreet locations to minimize scarring.
Skin sensation changes
Superficial sensory nerves may get affected during repositioning of the tissues. You may feel reduced sensation or numbness in the area. This generally reduces in a few years or months.
