How Are HALO® Treatments Performed?
Although HALO® is safe for all skin types, you must have a consultation with your provider so you can establish an effective treatment plan that addresses all of your concerns.
HALO® treatments usually take around 15 to 30 min to complete, with little discomfort or pain during treatment. Although the treatment is considered comfortable, some patients may opt to have a topical anesthetic on the treatment area about an hour prior to the procedure to allow the treatment area to be numbed.
Your provider will begin treatment by passing the HALO® device handpiece across your skin. As it gently rolls across your skin, the cooling features of the device will keep you comfortable. Your provider can adjust the intensity of your treatment as well; those who want a gentle, light treatment can opt for a less intense setting, while those who want dramatic results quickly can opt for a deeper treatment setting.
Once your treatment is finished, your skin will be protected with an SPF sunscreen, and you’ll be sent home.
How Can I Prepare For My HALO® Treatment?
HALO® is a gentle treatment that requires little preparation on the part of the patient. You may be asked to prepare for your HALO® appointment with the following:
- Avoid excessive sun exposure (including tanning beds) for a few days prior to your appointment
- Avoid harsh retinoids and chemical exfoliants a week before your HALO® treatment
- Come to your appointment with clean, bare skin
You may also be asked to come to your appointment an hour early for your topical anesthetic application.

What Is HALO®
Recovery Like?
Unlike lasers of the past, HALO® offers a comfortable, easy recovery period. While the intensity of the HALO® setting and the patient’s natural healing process will result in variations, here is what you can generally expect from HALO® recovery:
Immediately following your treatment, you may experience some redness, warmth, and tightness–similar to a mild sunburn. This is completely normal and should dissipate quickly. Your skin will likely be protected with a moisturizer, antibiotic cream, and/or sunscreen. Keep your skin protected according to your provider’s instructions for the first 24 hours.
Around days two and three post-treatment, your skin will begin to form a bronzed, sandpaper-like texture as dead skin and irregularities that were targeted with the laser begin to make their way to the skin’s surface. This roughened texture will begin to naturally slough off around day four or five, depending on the depth of your treatment.
You should continue to protect your skin through the recovery process, using a gentle cleanser and moisturizer until the skin has naturally exfoliated. Wear sunscreen daily, and avoid direct sun exposure for at least one week post-treatment.
What Results Can I Expect After HALO® Treatments?
After the exfoliation period, you will notice an improvement in several skin concerns. Your fine lines and wrinkles may appear finer, textural irregularities will be smoothed, and your skin will have a brighter, more reflective quality.
Depending on your skin concerns and goals for the procedure, you may see impressive results in just one treatment, while other patients may require a series of treatments for optimum results.
