Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Hair Restoration | El Paso Medical SpaHair loss can have a significant impact on your self-confidence. Men and women both struggle with alopecia. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a nonsurgical approach to reducing and reversing hair loss. PRP treatment involves a unique 3-step process which makes use of platelet-rich plasma in the blood for promoting natural hair growth.

Envy Aesthetic Center, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Marco Gonzalez, provides platelet rich plasma (PRP) hair restoration therapy for restoring hair growth in balding areas to patients in El Paso, TX, and surrounding locations.

How does PRP Hair Restoration Work?

PRP contains cell-renewal properties, which stimulates the scalp for encouraging hair production. PRP therapy enhances blood supply to hair follicles, which helps in increasing hair thickness. Majority of patients require a minimum of 4 to 6 injectable treatments for best results. Maintenance treatments may be required every few months when you achieve your desired results.

There are three steps in this procedure:

  • Blood Draw: Your treatment provider will draw some blood from your arm. This will be put through a centrifuge and spun for separating the platelet-rich plasma
  • PRP Centrifuge Isolation: The centrifuge process will take 10 to 20 minutes for separating plasma from the blood. The goal of this step is to isolate white blood cells and red blood cells from the PRP (a straw-colored fluid)
  • PRP Scalp Injections: Isolated PRP will be injected at precise areas for stimulating hair growth

PRP therapy for hair loss is a simple, non-surgical and cost-effective treatment for substantially improving hair growth and thickness. There is almost no downtime involved in the procedure. However, some patients may want to wait a day before returning to work. Because the procedure involves the use of your own blood, it doesn’t contain the risk of an adverse reaction or allergy.

People that can Benefit from Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy

PRP therapy is shown to be helpful in both men and women, especially in people with androgenetic alopecia. This is also called pattern baldness and is among the leading cause of thinning hair all over the head as per the US National Library of Medicine.

These are a few people that can benefit from PRP therapy:

  • Balding men
  • Women experiencing thinning hair or hair loss because of menopause
  • People that experienced hair loss in the last 5 years

Research Regarding PRP and its Benefits

PRP treatment for hair loss is a new procedure. But, research for it has been promising. 11 males with androgenetic alopecia were tested in a small study. The Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery published the research. The participants did not have any success with hair loss even after 6 months of medication. They received 4 PRP treatments as part of the study and saw an increase of 30% hair count after 3 months.

The Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology published a meta-analysis based on several current studies exploring the increase in hair thickness and count. The researchers found a correlation between PRP and hair growth, but mentioned that the findings were based on early results.

PRP Treatment Recovery

You won’t be prevented from performing regular activities. Any discomfort in the scalp region will abate in 3 to 4 days. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Marco Gonzalez of the Envy Aesthetic Center receives patients from El Paso, TX, and nearby areas for platelet rich plasma (PRP) hair restoration injection therapy to restore growth in balding parts of the scalp.
