What is an En bloc Capsulectomy Breast Implant Removal?

What is an En bloc Capsulectomy Breast Implant Removal?A number of surgical techniques are available today to remove breast implants. But for women who experience symptoms of breast implant illness (BII), en bloc capsulectomy may be the ideal choice. The term en bloc means “as one.”

The en bloc surgery leaves the capsule tissue intact on the implant and cuts around it without disturbing the implant or the capsule. This technique may be chosen to prevent contamination that may cause breast implant illness.

En bloc capsulectomy is a meticulous and delicate surgery. When undertaken by a skilled and experienced breast surgeon, the surgery can produce highly successful outcomes. Envy Aesthetic Center, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Marco Gonzalez, provides breast implant removal to patients in El Paso, TX, and surrounding communities.

En Bloc Capsulectomy Procedure

The en bloc technique was first developed as a method to take out ruptured silicone implants without infecting the body with silicone gel. This procedure involves taking out the capsule (the scar tissue that forms and surrounds the implant) and breast implant combined as one with the aim that no residual tissue is left behind.

The en bloc capsulectomy typically begins with an inframammary incision pattern, which is formed horizontally beneath the natural fold of the breast. If the patient previously has an inframammary pattern from her original breast augmentation surgery, the surgeon will try to make use of the same incision site to minimize new scarring. The surgery usually takes less than two hours and is performed with the patient under general anesthesia.

Once both the breast implant and capsule have been taken out successfully, the body starts a natural process of detoxification. Additionally, drains are placed to stop the accumulation of fluid and check the growth of new capsular tissue. The drains are helpful in restoring the breast to its original shape.

At times, breast lift is undertaken along with breast implant removal to eliminate extra loose skin. Breast lift reduces the lax skin, and repositions and reforms the breast tissue to an aesthetically pleasing position on the wall of the chest for a more youthful appearance.

It is vital to remember that the en bloc capsulectomy cannot be undertaken in all cases of breast explantation. Your surgeon will objectively assess your case and discuss the best options with you to determine your custom breast implant removal surgery plan.

En Bloc Capsulectomy Benefits

En bloc breast implant removal surgery offers a number of benefits. Taking out the capsule with the breast implant intact makes sure that the body does not get infected by any chemicals, debris, or fluids that are left behind by the breast implant. Secondly, it lets the breast tissue and muscle go back to their earlier position on the wall of the chest, bringing back a natural-looking and normal appearance.

Am I a Suitable Candidate For Implant Removal Surgery?

In case you are planning to undergo breast implant removal, the first step is to schedule a consultation with an experienced breast explantation surgeon. While a large number of cosmetic surgeons regularly undertake breast enhancement surgery, there is only a small number of experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons who can successfully perform en bloc capsulectomy.

During your first consultation appointment, the surgeon will patiently listen to all your concerns and work with you to formulate an individualized treatment plan to remove your breast implants. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Marco Gonzalez receives patients from El Paso, TX, and nearby areas for breast implant removal.
